my favorite korean drama....

FULL HOUSE

Thursday, June 30, 2005

 Full House

Starring: Bi(Rain) as Lee Young Jae, Song Hye Gyo as Han Ji Eun, Kang Hae Won as Han Eun Jung and Kim Sung Soo as Yu Min Hyuk

This romantic drama was all based on a Korean fav comic called.... Well..... Full House^^
In many ways people who had read this comic, including me, feel that the drama did not give the comic all the justice it deserves! Despite this, overall this was a very fun and joyful drama to watch. On the screen, Bi and Song Hye Gyo made a very fun-loving couple that couldn't stop getting at each other's throats. Every time they wanted to say something nice to each other they ended up saying things completely opposite to what they really meant! Throughout this drama, they continually quarrel with each other because of their stubborn selves.
Well before I tell you the details in the middle, I should tell you some of the follow up story to these events...
Han Ji Eun had lost her parents at a young age and was living in the house that her father had built and that she had been living in all her life. Because of her "friends" she is given the opportunity to go to China. This seemed innocent enough, but really, her friends had gotten themselves in a financial crisis, so they felt that after they got her out of the country they could sell her house and pay them off. Not knowing this, Ji Eun goes to China and ends up not having a place to stay. She goes to the hotel - her friends claimed to have gotten her a room - and finds that they had not gotten a room for her. Fortunately she runs into Yu Min Hyuk and is given a room.
Meanwhile... Lee Young Jea is a famous rising star in Korea that has a real attitude problem. He is given a film role that is located in China and goes there to fulfill this task. While in the airplane he is put in the seat next to Ji Eun. There they get acquainted... I guess you can call it that^^
After Ji Eun gets home she finds that all her stuff has been taken out and that someone new was moving in. In rage she goes to find her friends, but is unsuccessful. After this she goes back to the house to find that the person who had moved in was none other than Lee Young Jea. Because Ji Eun did not have a place to go Young Jea lets her stay on one condition... She had to be his housemaid.
This is what brings me to the other details. While they live together they begin to develop feelings towards each other but to try to avoid them they begin to fight and find ways of insulting each other.
There are many, many more details that I have not told you yet... *cough* Young Jea and Ji Eun get married *cough* so you have to watch it to find out.
Overall this was a very interesting drama on its own and if I hadn't read the comic I would have given it 5 stars because it truly is very well made but because the casting was all wrong and the comic was more interesting, I'll give this 4 stars^^

DAE JANG KEUM

DAE JANG KEUM: THE GRAND JANG KEUM
Starring: LEE YOUNG AE, JI JIN HEE

This epic drama is based on a true story of the palace medicine woman DAE JANG KEUM during King JUNGJONG (1506-1544) of CHOSUN Dynasty. At an era when women were second citizens, the achievement of a woman who tended the king as a doctor is certainly historical. The personal title "DAE" bestowed on Jang Keum by the king demonstrates the level of respect as well as the mastery of medicine.

Jang Keum (JK) was born to a mother who had been a palace woman working in the royal kitchen. The mother notices another palace woman (Miss Choi) mixing a foreign substance into some food she was preparing. JK's mother reports this to her superior who, unbeknownst to her, was the instigator of this conspiracy. She also tells her best friend (Miss Han) that she has reported this incident to the head of the royal kitchen, however, did not mention that she had told anyone. Soon, JK's mother was taken by the order of the superior and was forced poison on the grounds that she cultivated a man's feelings, which was a punishable and criminal act. Miss Han, who was told to prepare for the nighttime killing, couldn't bring herself to defend her friend and also took a role in the event. Miss Cho's false statement that she witnessed it sealed JK's mother's fate. While others were pouring poison, she laced in concoction that will lesson the effects of the poison. This saved JK's mother's life. Her supposed dead body was left in the bushes. JK's father was a palace policeman who delivered poison ordered by the king to the previous Queen. The Queen who has become a commoner again had to be killed because her son will become the next king, and no one wanted her wrath to be known to the new king. The result would cause many heads to roll. JK's father was so affected by the death of the Queen that he quits his position and "roams" the countryside. Once, he fell from a cliff and he wakes up with an old man attending him. The old man tells him of his future: he will meet three women, one- who he will cause to die, two- who will die because of him, three- who will cause him death but will save millions of people. JK's father asked him how to not meet the third woman, he was told to don't meet the second woman and the man vanishes. The next day, he finds JK's mother, takes her to a temple and revives her. He tries to not get involved with this woman but it is impossible: she has no skills to survive in the world outside the palace and what's more, her good-looks keep getting her into trouble (her good looks caught his eyes, too : P). Despite the warning that she would die because of him, they start the life together and soon there is a little girl- Jang Keum.

Jang Keum was a very special girl. She was curious about everything, wanted to learn to read (only boys were taught to read at this time) and played with boys in the woods. Because of this she would get her legs beaten sharply with a stripped tree branch (standard punishment) by her mother who would rather keep her daughter ingorant and therefore, a true commoner. It happens that JK and her father on one of the outings to the village chance upon a wrestling game. JK boasts that her father used to be a palace policeman and was very strong and could easily beat the village champion. The village champion not only prove to be a strong man but also cunning. He stabs himself and makes it look like JK's father did it to win the prize. Well, the government had just put out a wanted ad on JK's father on the basis that he took part in a punishable by death crime. By now the new king had found out how and why his mother was killed and was bent on revenge. He started to kill anyone who was involved in it. KJ's father was recognized to be one on the wanted ad and was taken away. JK runs to her mother who packes up whatever she could and now they are on the run. After they arrive at Hanyang (Capital of CHOSUN DYNASTY) JK's mother gets in contact with Miss Han and they tries to find out what happened to JK's father. Miss Choi's spies find out about what's going on with Miss Han. JK's mother was recognized as the palace woman who had witnessed the conspiracy and becomes a target to kill. After much running and confused imprisonment, etc., she dies in the deep of the hills asking JK's promise that she will live and become a palace woman to vindicate her mother. The vengeful king had been removed and the new king JUNG JONG had been replaced. In the JK's journey to become the palace cooking woman, she gets expelled many times but always able to come back. Eventually JK gets vanished to JEJOO island ( although modern tourist place, during JK's time it was barren and isolated place, only the worst of the criminals were sent there.)for the last time. It was the direct result of the conspiracy to remove Miss Han as the head of the royal kitchen and place Miss Choi as the head. Miss Han dies on the way to JEJOO and JK's left to live the life of an exiled criminal. Yet again, JK reinvents herself- she discovers that she can go back to palace if she becomes a medicine woman. So she starts to learn the ways of medicine and ultimately becomes DAE JANG KEUM. All through the story she meets caring friends and overcomes many difficulties (you know, the drama!!). Definitely sweet and heavy romance with Min Jung Ho (actor: Ji Jin Hee) is worth staying up to see just one more episode (many of those I had).

This drama is great, worth saving it for your posterity (nieces, cousins, daughters, granddaughters : P ) and friends!

 Lover in Paris

Starring: Kim Jeong Eun Eun as Tae Young, Park Shin Yang as Gi Ju, Lee Dong Gun as Soo Hyuk.

This romantic drama is set in the romantic city of Paris, France. A wierd twist of fate connects three people from completely different worlds to one place where they begin to develop feelings towards each other. At first none of them realize what they are getting themselves into, but as they get to know each other more and more their feelings toward each other begin to deepen.....
This drama begins when Tae Young decides to go to Paris to work on writing a scenario that would truly capture the essence of this romanic and beautiful city of Paris. There she meets Gi Ju while working at a friend's stall and Soo Hyuk when her bicycle breaks down. Gi Ju asks her to act as his fianc¨¦ so he could get the interest of a client he was meeting in Paris. While at a party hosted by this client something goes wrong to reveal the truth about their relationship. There they decide to call the whole thing quits and break up. They both go to Korea where fate pulls them back together.
Tae Young, Gi Ju and Soo Hyuk begin to develop friendships with Tae Young and end up feeling more feelings towards her than they initially thought. The thing about both of them having feelings towards one girl was that Gi Ju was Soo Hyuk's uncle and they had grown up like best friends since they were only about 7 years apart. Their feelings towards her slowly begin to be revealed causing heartache for all the people around them.
In this drama many hearts are broken and mended. People that had never experienced real love and had never really known what dating was really about begin to learn and express what they learned towards the person they truly love. At times this drama is really funny because these expressions of love get carried away.
This drama will make you cry, laugh and make you say "what the hell^^" I was initially going to give this drama five stars but after seeing the last two episodes I have decided that I was going to give it four stars because I feel they messed it up, but overall this was my all time favourite drama!

A Joyful Girl's Success Story

This story starts when Han Gi-Tae (Jang Hyuk) became the general manager of a well-known make-up company and Cha Yang-Soon (Jang Nara) was 'sold' to be a maid in order to return the money that her parents had conned. When in the countryside taking a photo for a newspaper, his parachute somehow had some problems and fell straight in the bathtub which Yang-Soon was taking a bath in!

After Gi-Tae went back, he realised that his necklace was lost and so went to find Yang-Soon to get the necklace back. Instead of getting the necklace back, Gi-Tae found himself chasing after Yang-Soon around because of complications and when he went to the branch office to try to get people to help, he was accused of lying to the security guards that he was the general manager of the main company as he did not have his identification with him as it was stolen by Yang-Soon's parents. Yang-Soon was made to go to the house of the president of the make-up company that Gi-Tae was in to be a maid and was then asked to do all the chores in Gi-Tae's house. Gi-Tae finally gets back his necklace and tries all means to throw Yang-Soon out of the house.

Yang-soon attends school in Seoul and meets Hwang Bo-Bae (Chu Ja Hyun) and Ruby and became great friends. Soon after, her grandmother went to Seoul to visit her but was knocked down by Yoon Na-Hee (Han Eun Jung), the daughter of the president of the make-up company and the fiancé of Gi-Tae. To get away from the life of being a maid and to return the people who were conned of their money back, Yang-Soon decided to join the contest by the make-up company which Gi-Tae was working in and got the first in that contest. After getting the award, she decided to go back to her old home in the countryside but found out that her parents had already sold the house. Gi-Tae and Na-Hee was about to get engaged when Na-Hee was told that Han Joon-Tae (Ryu Su Young) witnessed the accident of Yang-soon's grandmother and threatened to tell the police if she got engaged with Gi-tae as Joon-tae loved her. Na-hee then decided to further her studies after hearing what Joon-Tae told her.

One year later, Yang-Soon met all her friends including Gi-Tae and Song Su Koo (Yoon Tae Young), who had a crush on Yang-Soon since they first met when Yang-Soon was a maid, in a baseball match by the make-up company. As the company met with problems, Gi-Tae and the president of the company had to use all their property assets in order to save the company but never had he thought that his right-hand man, Joon-Tae, had betrayed him and caused he and the president to become bankrupt just when Gi-Tae wanted to propose to Yang-soon. But the president got away with it as her daughter, Na-Hee, had pleaded against Joon-Tae. After becoming poor, Gi-Tae started to plan and thought of ways to get back all his property assets and pretended to be helping Joon-Tae and he succeeded in the end. Yang-Soon then pursued her dream to join the army for 3 years.
